LEMEN, Albert, Sr. -- 1851-1880
Belleville, IL Weekly Advocate dated November 12, 1880: Sunday, November 1st, the tolling bell was again heard at Shiloh. Mr. Albert Lemen was laid away to rest in our beautiful cemetery, until the Resurrection trumpet shall sound. He died at his home in Nebraska, on Oct. 27th, aged about 29 1/2 years. His wife, who is a daughter of Mr. Frank Beedle, of Ridge Prairie, came to her father's a few weeks ago, they having decided to return to Illinois to live. He remained in Nebraska to close up his business, intending soon to follow her; but a few days ago she received word that he was ill, and hastened back, accompanied by her brother and his sister. All that the tender love of a wife, the tender care of a sister, the assiduous efforts of a brother and the skill of the medical fraternity could do, was insufficient to stay the fatal dart which the hand of death had aimed at him, and he fell asleep after terrible suffering, claiming that "all was well". That assurance will serve to alleviate the cruel blow which has deprived the mother of a noble son, and the wife of a good husband. When only eight years old Mr. Lemen united with Bethel church. A very large number of mourning relatives and friends assembled at Mr. Beedle's on Sunday morning, to render to the body (which arrived on Saturday morning) the last tribute of respect which we can show our sacred dead. Rev. Andricks, of Bethel, preached a touching discussion at the house, and conducted the exercises at the cemetery. L.N.B.
